The First Down Syndrome Wrestling Team in the World

They practice neither for competition nor for medals; Athletes, even sometimes shy, whose single, deep crease of palms make them stand out. Just because they have 47 chromosomes and the rest of people one less. In Iran, in every 1000 births, 10 births are diagnosed with chromosome abnormalities. Experts predict that in case of pregnancy after 35, there would be approximately 2500 births with chromosome abnormality annually. Experts also believe that putting people with Down syndrome into small groups of exercise and game-play and their active participation in sport and proper moving spaces would be of high benefit. Angels of Wall 47, an Iranian institution dedicated to supporting 47-Chromosome children, have made sports possible for children with Down syndrome through establishing the first ever down syndrome wrestling team in the world.
This Story was awarded 1st place in the Iranian Press Photo Awards of the Year 2019 for the Sports Story category.

موسسه «فرشتگان دیوار ۴۷» در ایران، در راستای حمایت از کودکان ۴۷ کوروموزومی، با تشکیل اولین تیم کشتی سندروم داون جهان، امکان ورزش کردن کودکان سندروم داون را فراهم کرده است
در ایران به ازای هر یک هزار تولد، ده تولد دچار اختلالات کروموزمی هستند که پیش بینی کارشناسان ژنتیک این است که در صورت بارداری مادران بالای سن ۳۵ سالگی در کشور ایران سالانه ۲۵۰۰ نفر با اختلالات کروموزمی بدنیا می‌آیند. کارشناسان همچنین معتقدند قرار دادن مبتلایان به سندروم داون در گروه‌های کوچک تمرین، بازی و مشارکت فعال آنان در موقعیت‌های ورزشی و فضاهای حرکتی متناسب، برایشان بسیار مفید است
