The 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, also counted as the 5th Asian Indoor Games were held in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan. The Turkmenistan government organized this edition of the games in an exceptionally secure environment. Unwarranted entry and exit to Ashgabat city were prohibited, and to facilitate the sports caravans, a modern sports village was built on the outskirts of Ashgabat. Aside from strict security measures for athletes, several security personnel also monitored the press. Due to security reasons, no foreign spectators witnessed this edition of the games; only citizens and students filled the stadiums by obligation.
